Shilen Patel is the chief executive officer and founder of HealthAxis Group, as well as a serial entrepreneur and investor who has spent his entire career leading companies in the Healthcare IT space. Prior to founding HealthAxis Group, Mr. Patel was a top executive and part owner of Visionary Healthware. Under his leadership, Visionary Healthware achieved 30x growth and received recognition as one of America’s 100 largest healthcare IT companies before being acquired by an international public company.

He is also an active early stage and private equity investor, as well as founder of multiple other enterprises. His investments range from tiny startups to more visible and remote assets such as ownership in Bologna FC, a soccer team competing with the likes of Juventus and AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A.

In 2017, Mr. Patel became a co-founder and Chairman of the TiE Tampa Bay Angel Fund, a $3 million fund established to financially support Florida startups, improve understanding and awareness of angel investing among Tampa Bay investors, and help startups fulfill their potential as value drivers and community assets. Mr. Patel is highly active in the management and formation of the Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel Family Office, which holds a nine-figure portfolio of real estate, direct and indirect investments, and marketable securities. He chairs the Creative Entrepreneurship Lab, a non-profit initiative related to the Tampa Innovation Alliance which supports entrepreneurial activity in the USF area and at the uptown site. Additionally, He is a founding Director of Central Bank, a community bank which services Tampa, St Augustine, and Winter Park.

In 2013, Mr. Patel graduated from the EMBA-Global programme at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and the London Business School with an MBA from both institutions. He received his undergraduate degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship at Babson College in 2002.

Jason Patchen, a prominent healthcare entrepreneur and philanthropist, serves as president of HealthAxis Group, a $200M healthcare portfolio business. He was most recently a senior executive corporate officer, and group CEO, for Centene Corporation, a $60B healthcare company. Mr. Patchen was also the founder and former CEO of Visionary HealthWare, Inc., a division of CompuGroup USA.

With thirty years of experience in managed care and related healthcare technology and service, Mr. Patchen possesses a unique and extensive depth of knowledge of the managed care industry. Before creating Visionary HealthWare, he served as chief operating officer at Health Integrated, Inc. As one of the largest disease management companies in the United States, Health Integrated provides a variety of healthcare services for the chronically ill in the commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid markets serving approximately 4 million patients. Mr. Patchen was instrumental in growing that company from its early stage to a multimillion dollar enterprise.

In 2017, Mr. Patchen received the Minerva Award, the school’s highest award, for outstanding professional success from his Alma Mater. He was recognized as a finalist in both the 22nd and 24th annual Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year® (2008 and 2010) award program.

A winner of the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s “40 under 40” award for promise in business, Mr. Patchen also has been recognized as one of the most influential people in healthcare by the Florida Medical Business Journal. Experience includes co-founder and president of WebHealthy, Inc., an e-healthcare and provider management services company with revenues of $20M, and vice-president of Corporate Development at Heritage Southeast Medical Group, a startup company in the State of Florida, where he was instrumental in generating revenues of $70M. As executive director of Better Health Plan, Buffalo, New York, at the young age of 25, Mr. Patchen grew the organization from startup to $30M before transitioning via sale to a publicly traded company. He began his professional healthcare career as a managed care regulator for the State of New York. Previously he served as a Legislative Aid in the NYS Assembly.

Jim Clark is an innovative and results-driven leader, currently serving as chief growth officer of HealthAxis Group. In his role, Mr. Clark is responsible for business development, product management, strategy and corporate development.

Prior to joining HealthAxis Group, Mr. Clark served as vice president of product and business development for at Centene Corporation, helping to launch Centene’s Envolve brand and division focused on providing technology and administrative service solutions to payers and risk-bearing provider organizations. Engagements included vendor service arrangements and joint ventures utilizing Envolve’s comprehensive suite of medical management, claims, governance, member services, network management and specialty management capabilities. Closed transactions totaled more than 1,000,000 members representing more than $4 billion in annual premium.

Mr. Clark began his career in healthcare as founder, president and chief operating officer of Soft-Aid, Inc., where he launched and built the healthcare information technology and services company from start-up. He later served as president and chief operating officer of Visionary Healthcare, having led organic and M&A-related growth to more than 10,000 providers.

Recognized as a highly effective motivator, Mr. Clark’s specialties include corporate strategy, M&A, business process improvement, product development, partner channel growth and team development. Holding over twenty-five years of experience building companies and successfully leading operations, Mr. Clark is a member of the Board of Directors for Entrepreneur’s Organization of South Florida.

Mr. Clark has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida State University and a Master of Business Administration in finance and entrepreneurship from the University of South Florida.

Joanne Dempster is the chief financial officer at HealthAxis Group, where she is responsible for finance, human resources, legal and compliance departments of the company.

Prior to joining HealthAxis Group, she served as the chief financial officer at OttLite Technologies, a lighting technology company, and Progressus Therapy, a school-based therapy and early intervention company for school districts and communities in the United States.

Ms. Dempster has more than 20 years of experience in financial management and operated as the director of finance/controller and vice president of finance in the cellular tower industry. She also functioned as an operating vice president of finance at the Home Shopping Network and director of accounting at TechData, a technology company in the Tampa Bay area.

Previously, Ms. Dempster spent seven years in finance at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. She started her career at Ernst & Whinney, LLP, where she was part of the audit staff that focused on a variety of manufacturing, retail and distribution companies. Ms. Dempster earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Central Florida and is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Ms. Dempster currently serves as the board chair of Financial Executives International’s Tamapa Bay Chapter.

In 2019, she was recognized as a CFO of the year honoree from the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Zachary Kilburn  is a strategic, solutions-oriented leader, currently serving as chief technology officer of HealthAxis Group. In his role, Mr. Kilburn is responsible for guiding the technical vision and carrying out the strategy for technology platforms, partnerships, and external relationships.

Before joining HealthAxis Group, Mr. Kilburn built his career through multiple promotions at CareCentrix, reaching the title of vice president of business technology and architecture. Most recently, he held the position of chief technology officer of InSync Healthcare Solutions. He has overseen all facets of a technology organization, from infrastructure to design and implementation. He has executed business processes to increase scalability, redundancy, security, and performance while decreasing costs. Additionally, Mr. Kilburn has transformed client implementations, forged strategic provider relationships, and introduced Agile/Scrum methodologies within organizations.

Mr. Kilburn has more than 20 years experiences in providing business and technology solutions in multi-platform environments. He has broken down barriers between IT and lines of business by understanding and identifying fundamental needs, partnering to develop creative solutions, and problem-solving to execute and drive business goals.

Mr. Kilburn has earned several programming language certificates and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information science and business administration from West Virginia Wesleyan.

Michele Mahoney is the chief healthcare operations officer for HealthAxis Group, where she is responsible for the third-party administrator and business process outsourcing operations of the company.

In this role, Ms. Mahoney oversees operation areas including claims, customer service, enrollment, systems configuration, BPO services and organizational performance. Under her leadership, the company has implemented operational efficiencies that have led to low administrative costs and high customer satisfaction.

Prior to this role, she was the chief operations officer at Beacon Health Solutions, where she provided leadership, strategic direction and oversight of day-to-day operations.

Ms. Mahoney also served as the vice president of configuration at Global TPA, a TPA serving Freedom Health Plan and Optimum Health Plan of Florida. She also held management positions at WellCare Health Plans and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.

Eric Strikowski is the chief innovation officer at HealthAxis Group. In this role, Mr. Strikowski manages data center operations, infrastructure technology and software engineering. He is also responsible for ensuring proper technology selection and developing strategies that are aligned with the enterprise’s vision.

Prior to joining HealthAxis Group, Mr. Strikowski was accountable for the development teams at Global TPA and as the senior programmer, he introduced, prototyped and demonstrated their new technologies, mostly geared towards the integration of multiple healthcare technology systems. Mr. Strikowski also created a healthcare CRM and an automated communications system, among various websites and applications.

Michael Friel is the Compliance Officer for HealthAxis Group and all of its associated organizations including Beacon Health Solutions and Analytics Partners. In this role, Mr. Friel manages the corporate compliance program and the daily operations of the department. As the compliance officer, he acts as the company’s liaison and communicates directly with federal entities.

Mr. Friel has more than 20 years in the legal field and healthcare industry. His experience includes corporate governance, personal insurance, and commercial and government-sponsored health plans.

Prior to joining HealthAxis Group, Mr. Friel worked for Cardinal Health, Florida Healthcare Plus, Integral Quality Care and WellCare. He is known for helping both domestic and international companies establish and maintain successful compliance programs. For over ten years, he investigated fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicare/Medicaid operations based in Latin America and the U.S. In addition, Mr. Friel has facilitated licensing and oversight of insurance operations for Third Party Administrators licensed in all 50 states. Mr. Friel holds a Juris Doctor from Western New England University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Manhattan College. He is also licensed to practice law in the State of Connecticut.
